imkerhof - children's home

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
James 1:27. (NIV)

Kathleen and Udo Wahl were challenged to take action following a seminar on AIDs. At the time, there were 67,000 orphans in Namibia whilst the total population was only 2 million. Almost a whole generation of wage-earners was wiped out leaving the extended family depleted and unable to cope and children on the streets to fend for themselves.

Imkerhof children's extension Extension to children's home

Last year a new wing was added to the children's home to house Mama Sophie, her own 3 children and 4 of the younger children from the home. This frees up the house they were living in for staff and/or volunteer accommodation.

Solar panels Solar panels

Thanks to a very generous sponsor from Scotland, we were able to install solar panels on the children's home and Kathleen & Udo's house. This supplies adequate hot water and saves money on electricity. We are so thankful for this gift.

Houseparents Houseparents

The children are cared for by their houseparents, Eveline, Sofie and Kondji. Kondji with his wife and baby will be leaving in December to go back and work in their church in Owamboland. We hope to have new houseparents appointed soon to enable the smooth transition for the children, especially the older boys.

Madamutsa family Madimutsa family

In January 2008 we welcomed the Madimutsa family from Zimbabwe. Walter is the Principal of the children's home and his wife Ella is working voluntarily in the school at present. Young Walter attends the school and Gladys may return to Zimbabwe to finish her schooling there.
